The Story

For most of my life, I have been involved in some way with helping the needy and homeless. It’s the best way I know to remind myself of how blessed I am. When they were young, my children would volunteer with me on weekends and holidays. In 2019, as the political divide grew, I began a mission to give free hugs in every state, even though before I had barely hugged my mom. Many thought it was silly. 26 states in, the lockdown shut down my hug quest. Then I did something even crazier and more scrutinized than free hugs around the nation. I opened a community center in the middle of COVID.

As businesses shut down and the nation divided. I opened a place to unite people of all beliefs, economics, and political views. I let homeless people sleep on my couch and in my doorway. The landlord was not pleased. After years, I eventually lost my lease because I refused to ignore the growing homeless population.

During my hug tour, a radio show, and my community center years, there was no public sign of Christ in my life. I have spent years traveling all around the nation and the world, giving free hugs to tens of thousands to spread love and unity, but God took a back seat the whole time. As I found out, and many have, when you build something and put anything other than  God as your foundation, it’s prone to topple over. Jesus found me in the brokenness of my own life, and everything changed.

I was reborn. No longer is Jesus someone kept in a box and only brought out for special occasions. He is the roots of everything I do and goes with me everywhere I go. No longer do I feed hungry people on the street and spread love. For every person I give a sandwich to, I ask if they need prayer. This often allows me to

talk about Jesus afterward.

A showing everyone the eternal food and limitless love of Jesus Christ. While serving sandwiches is important, it is only temporary sustenance. Prayer and a relationship with Jesus is an eternal food we all need. Prayer is often the doorway to sharing Jesus with people.
